What to Expect When Visiting Singapore

Make your own way (unless hotel pickup option is selected) to Singapore Harbourfront Centre ferry terminal for your 9:20am (GMT+8) high-speed public ferry to the Indonesian town of Batam. Relax in cool air-conditioned comfort during the 1-hour journey across the Singapore/Indonesia border.

Stop At: Goddess Kwan Im Statue, Jl. Kolonel Soegiono, Sekupang, Riau Islands Province Indonesia

Upon clearing immigration in Batam, your private licensed guide will escort you to your private, air-conditioned deluxe minivan for a tour around Batam, the largest city in the Riau Islands Province of Indonesia.

You will first stop by for a Buddhist temple featuring the tallest Goddess Of Mercy (Kwan Im) statue in Indonesia, standing at a majestic height of 22.37 meters.

Kwan Im is one of the most commonly worshipped deity in Buddhism. Many Buddhists pray to her for good luck, family, and studies etc.

Stop At: Galang Vietnamese Refugee Camp, Riau Islands Province Indonesia

Galang Refugee Camp is a 80-hectare refugee camp built in Galang district in Batam. It saw a total of 250,000 refugees passing through it from 1979 to 1996.

During its service, there were complete facilities such as barracks, hospital, prayer building, school and even a jail.

You will also visit the grand Barelang Bridge, sometimes called the Golden Gate Bridge of Batam, which is a piece of modern architecture seemingly ahead of time in this laid-back developing Indonesian town. You will then tuck in to a 4-course seafood lunch consisting of 2 types of seafood, chicken and vegetables at a kelong (traditional Indonesian floating house) restaurant nearby.

Stop At: Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple, Jl. Laksmana Bintan Sei Panas III, Batam Center, Riau Islands Province 29432 Indonesia

Next, you will stop by to visit the Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple. This temple is the largest Chinese temple in Indonesia, situated on a hill called Lucky Hill.

The temple is dedicated to the Maitreya, who is the future Buddha who will achieve complete enlightenment, Maitreya can also be seen at the most centre of the temple plated in gold standing at 5m high.

Next, you will get to make a quick stop at a local bakery to sample famous Indonesian layer cakes, also affectionately known to the locals as Kueh Lapis. Kueh Lapis is not difficult to make, but it requires time and a lot of patience. The bakers hover next to the oven for a couple of hours grilling each layer of batter. Kueh Lapis is typically served in small, thin, rich and fragrant slices.

You will also visit the Batam Industrial Park to tour an Indonesian coffee processing facility (70 Fahrenheit Koffie) and learn about the famous Indonesian kopi luwak (civet coffee beans). You may choose to replace this stop with a visit to the popular 75-cent shop nearby.

You will also visit the Batam Mini Indonesia Park featuring miniature replicas of architecture from Indonesia’s 34 provinces including the capital – Jakarta.

Finally, your guide will bring you back to the ferry terminal for your high-speed public ferry back to Singapore.

The ferry terminal is connected by a skybridge on the departure level to Megamall. If there is still time, you may pop into Megamall for everyday non-touristy items and snacks at local prices.

Please head back to the ferry terminal 30 minutes before ferry timing for boarding formalities.
